Okay so my little girl was 2 months on the 29th. She has gained 3lbs & grew almost 3 inches. My dr. said there was no cause for concern but i'm still a little worried. I've read she should gain between 1-2 lbs a month -- but i'm still a little worked up. Has this ever happened to someones lil baby and it wasn't a problem or vice versa ?? Please

  1. Some babies are on their own growth curve.  You're baby will let you know when she's hungry and satisfied.  It's up to you two to find your own natural rythem.  Don't worry about the text books.  Take care.

  2. The 25th percentile doesn't matter, it's just whether the baby is staying along a consistent growth line.  And when babies are small, they might cross over to another percentile too, without reason to worry.

A baby that looks healthy, has times of being alert and interacts with parents, is developing normally, then no worries!

Enjoy her!  Anytime you have concerns, let your doctor or provider know.

  3. Dont listen to the books, or what you read.  All babies are different.  My daughter gained 4lbs in a month and grew almost 4 inches.  Some babies grow faster then others, some slower.  If you follow everything you read, your going to be pulling your hair out thinking that theres so many problems with your daughter.  All that matters is that she's healthy and happy.

*As long as shes not in a negative percentile she's fine.  Gaining 3lbs is a good start for a two month old.  I take it your small? If so then she'll be small.  Theres even babies who are in the 0 percentile that are still healthy and normal.  If the doctor's not worried then try not to worry.  I know its hard, I take it your a first time mom.  As she gets older and starts eating solids she will gain more weight.*

  4. if your doctor doesnt seem concerned neither should you....not all babies are "textbook", as long as she is following her growth curve every thing is ok!!

  5. hi my baby girl is very tall and petite she was only putting on 100-150gms a fortnight she has really only put on around 3ib since she was born and she is now 13wks old

  6. don't worry... Everything will be ok espically if your doc said it also.. I took care of my little niece and nephew for awhile and their growing really fast and the doctor are happy at the fact that they are because it just mean that their healthy.. If your really worry then call your doctor and just tell them that your really worry and see if there's really a problem or not

  7. Don't worry sound fine to me you just have a small baby She's growing so don't worry I bet you and the father are not huge people so what do you except your baby to be a giant  Baby are all different don't read books and compare your child to the book you will question it every time.

  8. Stop worrieing everyone is a bit different,in just awhile longer she will take off.

  9. i'm confused. your baby gained an extra pound? this is great! no need to be worried!

  10. You start from the LOWEST weight, not the birth weight.

So assuming that your baby took 2 weeks to regain her birth weight and then gained 3lbs she's gained an average of 7.2oz per week which is more than average.  If she regained her birthweight by 1 week she's gained an average 6.31 oz per week -also average.

4-7 oz gained per week is average.

Lots of babies are in the 25th percentile, there is nothing wrong with the 25th percentile.  Anything between 3-97th is fine unless the baby is rapidly loosing percentiles.

Please keep in mind that your child's percentile doesn't really indicate how well they are growing. A child at the 5th percentile can be growing just as well as a child at the 95th percentile. It is more important to look at your child's growth over time. If you are concerned about your child's growth, talk with your Pediatrician.

    0-4 months   5.5 - 8.5 ounces per week   5 - 7 ounces per week †

† It is acceptable for some babies to gain 4-5 ounces per week.

  11. My son was in the 95th percentile for height, weight and head measurment. My doctor told me that my son was an anamoly. He had only seen it once. Then at his 6 month visit he measured completely different. If she measured in the 25t percentile in all catagories don't be worried! It changes. If you just mean weight percentile you have to realize that she may not of had the same starting weight as the other babies.

  12. If your Doctor says don't worry, then don't. 3 pounds isn't that big of a deal, she's healthy!
