  1. Hi!

    1. Costa Rica (CR) is different from other Central American countries, because first of all, here is not a military government, it was abolish on 1949. The problem that have the rest of central american countries are corruption, extreme crime as Guatemala, Salvador and Honduras with the Maras and Salvatruchas. Nicaragua was very affected by the Somoza's Government, and economy has not been very stable because of it. Also several Civil Wars affected Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala during the last century.

2.Mr. Juan Vasquez de Coronado stablished the first city on the now called Esparza, but he move all the citizens to El  Guarco Valley on 1502 by the name of Cartago, CR's first capital city. He settled there because land was more fertile than Esparza that was very near the pacific coast. On El Guarco Valley, there were some native americans, so killing them was one of the purpose, and also, corn, potatoe, and sugar grow better.

    3. As any other latin american country, crime is present in Costa Rica, Limon Port have the major crime index, followed by San Jose, crime is nowadays the deal of CR's government because that index is growing more, but compared with the others Central American Countries, Costa Rica have less violence and crime. As I told before, Maras and Salvatruchas are some kind of Central Americans Gangsters and they are very aggressive, but they are not present on all the cities of the countries I mentioned. Nicaragua are a very big country so, Maras and salvatruchas are less on that country, and that means: Costa Rica have less influence.

    4. Oscar Arias Sanchez is CR's pres. He is owner of the Nobel Peace Price of 1989, because he help to eliminate Central American War with the Esquipulas Trades. And on Feb. 2006 he was elected again before an odd election he won, and now he approved the Central American Free Trade Agreement with the United States (CAFTA, "TLC" in Spanish) He is one of the major actionist of big Costa Rican Companies as PIPASA, and owner of a lot of coffee plantations on Heredia. People say he approved CAFTA for personal reasons, because it would help his companies economically. But he still doing several things that are kind of questionable with gouvernmental land on the beach that now are of him or gouvernmeal trades with his companies..., but also, he's making several good things... well i expect.

As u can get noticed, i'm costa rican so good luck on your project, and have a nice day!
