i want one soooooooooo badly, I've heard they're terrific pets, but I need to know what size tank I'd need, what they eat, and what other fish can go in the tank with them! Thanks!

  1. It depends on what type of puffer you get...they have species specific

needs. Is it saltwater? Brackish? etc., etc.

Depending on the species...some are docile and tolerate tankmates...my green spotted puffers are very aggressive and do not.

So I think your next step is deciding what kind you want and THEN do your research on the specific needs of that type of puff

  2. Well, there are freshwater and saltwater puffers, for a first puff. I say dwarf puffers. You can have 3 or 4 in a 10 gallon tank and they are really cute!!=)

They should not be with any other fish cuz they can kill fish bigger than thenselves, so a small puffer tank would be best!

p.s. I went for freshwater puffer cuz they are the easiest to care for and do not get to big.

  3. They eat corals, sponges, sea urchins, other echinoderms, and small crustaceans. Puffer fish crush and grind their food with they're mouths. Usually they aren't prone to having friendship with other pets because they usually hurt them with they're needles. The smallest tank you should have for a puffer fish is 55 gallon tank. I have a 69 gallon tank for my puffer fish. Her name is Polly :) Hope you have fun with yours!

  4. First you have to decide if you want freshwater, brackish water or full marine...Porcupine puffers and green spotted puffer, live in or will live in full marine, figure 8 puffers and dwarf puffers are freshwater, many will argue about the figure 8 but they are only found in freshwater, and then the rest are mostly brackish water which is low level salinity, or a low concentration of ocean salt, they all eat snails, its important for their teeth, but they eat shrimp, mussels, live fish if you let them (its not good for them all the time) blood worms, brine shrimp.  lots for you to decide, only you can choose which is right for you.
