  1. Immigration to Australia is restricted to people in listed occupations in which workers are in short supply here. If your occupation isn't on one of the lists, you won't get a work visa even with employer or family sponsorship. You must also pass a points test if you're not employer sponsored and meet health and character requirements. The immigration procedure usually takes around 12 months and there's generally no point in looking for work until your application is well underway. If you need employer sponsorship, then you'll of course need to apply online, but the prospects of success with that will depend on what type of work you do.

    Here are the lists:

    The points test:

    Character and penal clearance requirements:

    Health:

If you can qualify on all of the immigration requirements, you should then look for work. That in turn will tell you the area in Melbourne where you should look for an apartment though you'll need to wait until you're here before looking for one. Australia's educational system is excellent and you won't have any trouble finding a good primary school (that's what we call an elementary school) for your daughter.

  2. You have to a working permit before you can find a job.

  3. before you can get a job you must go through the immigration process, this can take up to a year in some cases

you either need to be a skilled worker in an occupation australia needs or have a close family member sponsor you

  4. You might start by contacting an Australian consulate in the USA or wherever you live.
