However, the poem must be analyzed before the message can be clearly understood. In “Metaphor” by Eve Merriam, Merriam teaches several life lessons by comparing morning to a new sheet of paper, using a metaphor inside of a metaphor, and giving a sense of newness by ending one day and beginning the next.
