Unfortunately, the Wild Mustang and Burro Management Program is already in place and there's really not much hands-on assistance you can provide. The U.S. Bureau of Land Management strictly administers this program under the U.S. Department of the Interior. They do an excellent job of managing these wild herds. You can write to them or attempt to locate a private support or watchdog group. But as far as actually working with the animals, that just isn't going to happen unless you get a degree in a relative scientific field and get a job with the BLM program. Good luck.

Mustangs are amazing animals. Unfortunately they are not very popular with the ranching types because their cattle have to compete with the mustangs for grass. Remember that these ranchers graze their cattle on your public land for pennies on the dollar. Some people also think that since mustangs aren't wild, but a non-native "feral" species, they don't deserve our protection. I feel that they do. You can adopt a mustang or feral burro from the Bureau of Land Management. I have a four year old mustang gelding named Jack whom I love very much.
