Can someone help me translate a phrase from Omorfi Poli?

As part my my attempt to improve my Greek I have been listening to Greek songs and working on translating the lyrics. One of my favourites is Omorfi Poli. I have memorized the song and sing it to myself all day; it usually brings me to tears. But the only translation I can come up with for the phrase xeria sparmena ("hands littered" or "hands sown") doesn't seem to quite make sense. Is there an idiom I'm missing or did Giannis Theodorakis just use a little poetic license to get a rhyme and an interesting image?

It is used under  a poetic license and it rhymes with the rest of the verse.

It is more the translation of "hands sown" and it refers I believe, to manual workers that are working under the sun all over the place and they appear as sown under the sun.

I agree with you, is a very beautiful though sad song and full of beautiful pictures of life.
