I am doing a powerpoint presentation for school. It needs to be a 3-5 minute talk. What things should I include?

This the criteria our teacher gave us:

Introduce the topic and indicate how it is linked to Environmental Science.

Background information, what is the significance of your topic in terms of Sustainable development.

Give the present situation or why your topic is currently an issue.

Explore the future directions / predictions and possible solutions.

Can someone tell me this information and/or websites to help me?

  1. Topic:  The next Ice Age...the most life threatening climate change in history, and the future.

Background:  Show fossil records of mass extinctions due to past Ice Ages.  Show past areas affected, and some examples of what exists there today (areas most in danger for the next one).

Given present situation:  It's been 10,000 years since the last cool period, which means we're due another very soon.

Future directions/predictions/solutions:  Populations will continue to grow until the climate gets colder, places covered in ice in the past will be covered again, the only solution is to get out of the way by either moving south or going underground.

Titles:  Be the ant, Grasshopper.  (Do kids still read fables?)

  2. *Introduce the topic and indicate how it is linked to Environmental Science.:

answer from ur own words by explaining how the climate change effect on the environment ,, briefly..cos u dnt have enough time to explain..

*Background information, what is the significance of your topic in terms of Sustainable development.

    define sustainable development and environment

here is a website that define sustainable development:

    http://sbinfocanada.about.com/od/environ...

*Give the present situation or why your topic is currently an issue.

    here is an example:

    http://www.eea.europa.eu/highlights/proo...

*Explore the future directions / predictions and possible solutions.

explain from ur own words about some products .. talk more about reducing the # of cars and smokers .. filter for the factories..hmmmm,,,,talk about the CFCs and reduce the consumtion of products that has contain CFC's

    gooooooood luck

  3. climit change to sum it up.... imagine the world in a grave

  4. Its very easy to describe climate change.....it's called the SUN!

  5. We have Global Cooling which you can read my article. You can read http://www.dailytech.com/Temperature+Mon...

  6. Be certain to note in your presentation that a significant amount of the information claimed by movies like 'Inconvenient Truth', and claimed by climate experts is either totally false or based on flawed data.  Also, note that politicians have embraced the global warming cause for less than noble reasons.

  7. I recommend the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports.

I recommend that you avoid the popular media as a souce, because the popular media is highly politicized and you will find it very difficult to separate the political propaganda from the solid scientific material.

I recommend that you use only peer reviewed professional scientifc literature as your source material. (The IPCC reports are peer reviewed professional scientific literature)

The popular media is not peer reviewed professional scientific literature.

With respect to a title for a power point presentation, if you are trying to get the attention of your audience I would use something like:

Climate Change: The Climate That You Save May Be Your Own.

A more serious title might be:

Climate Change: Separating Fact From Fiction.

For the factual portion use the IPCC reports.

For the fiction use some of the more ridiculous stories in the popular media, such as some of the material from the movie "The Day After Tomorrow" which is a science fiction horror flick version of Climate Change with just enough scientifc material thrown in to make some parts of the movie sound remotely plausible.

A good part of your speech would be to compare the movie with the IPCC reports to show the comparison of the extreme hysteria in the popular media with a solid and sober scientific approach to the problem of Global Climate Change.

I wish you much success with your report.

  8. i STRONGLY recommend watching an inconvenient truth. after watching it, you'll definitely understand the issue and be able to answer all of these questions very thoroughly.

  9. Some gases ("greenhouse gases") let sunlight in, which warms the Earth, and then block that heat from leaving. That's the "greenhouse effect", and it's a natural thing, mostly caused by water vapor.

Man is making excessive amounts of greenhouse gases, mostly by burning fossil fuels. That causes the delicate natural balance to go out of whack and the Earth warms. That's global warming.

It won't be a Hollywood movie style disaster. Gradually coastal areas will flood and agriculture will be damaged. But it will be very bad. Rich countries will cope, but it will take huge amounts of money. In poor countries many people will die of starvation, but not all of them.

Most scientists say, in 20-50 years. But we need to start right now to fix it, fixing it will take even longer than that.

Really good website for more information here:

    http://www.nrdc.org/globalWarming/f101.a...

Lots of numerical scientific data proving it real here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Clima...

    http://www.ipcc.ch/pdf/assessment-report...

Proof that most scientists think it's real and mostly caused by us here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_...

    http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/fu...

Your idea for a subtitle is pretty good.

  10. I recommend that you avoid the popular media as a souce, because the popular media is highly politicized and you will find it very difficult to separate the political propaganda from the solid scientific material.
