Question:

Can someone help me understand this EBAY shipping charge?

I have purchased many small items from ebay in the past. Now, I want to bid on a larger item that I would have to go and pick up, and the sellers page specifies "pick up only". Every time I get to the submit bid page though, it tells me that there is a $5 shipping charge. Not that $5 is such a big deal, but since I am paying for the gas to drive 75 miles to pick the item up, I want to know, is it standard practice to be charged for a pick up item? Thank you...

  1. Email the seller and ask what it is.  I email them all the time.  They're usually happy to answer questions.

  2. E-mail the seller and ask him why he's charging a shipping charge for pickup. It might just be some kind of mistake on his part.

  3. Even though you may be picking it up, some of the sellers still charge packaging fees, or handling charges...why, i don't know but I have seen this on ebay before. E mail or call the seller and ask him about this charge. He may have made a mistake and didn't realize it or then again maybe he is pulling your leg! Good luck!
