  1. I'm happy to help you use DOSbox, but what exactly is it you need help with specifically?

If we go from the start, suppose you install your DOS games to, say, C:\DOSGAMES

In order to make DOSbox default to your DOS games directory, open up the DOSBOX.CONF file (you'll find it in your DOSbox installation folder) in Notepad.

Search the file for [autoexec] (including the square brackets). The [autoexec] section should be at or near the end of the file, but if it can't find it just create the section yourself. Then add the following lines to the [autoexec] section so that it looks something like this:

    [autoexec]

    mount c "C:\DOSGAMES"

    mount d D:\ -t cdrom

    C:

    DIR

The first line will map DOSbox's C drive to your "real" C:\DOSGAMES directory. (You can change the directory name if you've installed your DOS games to a different directory).

The second line will map DOSbox's D drive to your physical CDROM drive D:\ (you will have to change this if your CD or DVD drive isn't D:, or if you don't actually play any CD games you can omit this line to save a bit of memory.

The third and fourth lines tell DOSbox to move into your DOS games directory and display the installed games.

Hopefully that should cover the basics of configuring DOSbox - you can spend ages carefully tuning and adjusting settings if you want, but generally speaking I've found that it works pretty well as it is. Certainly autodetecting sound settings and whatnot has always worked well for me in the DOS games I've tried.

If you have any other queries, please feel free to get in touch and I'll help if I can.
