  1. find the value for y

    2/3y-4=2                   get y by itself--to do that you add 4 to each side

          +4 +4

                                    that gets you 2/3y=6. divide each side by 2/3 to

                                    get y by itself. 6 divided by 2/3 is 9. so y=9.

                                    thats your answer

    2/3y=6

    y=9

  2. 2/3 y-4=2

    2/3 y = 2 + 4 = 6

    2y = 6(3) = 18

    y = 18/2 = 9

  3. 2/3y - 4=2

    you want to put why by itself by isolating it.

    2/3y - 4= 2

           +4   +4                            This makes 2/3 y alone on

             ^     ^                           the other side of the equation

             add 4

    2/3y=6                 u have to divide to get the answer to cancel out 2/3

                              and get y alone... to do this multiply by the  reciprocal to BOTH SIDES.( 3/2  ) It will cancel 2/3 when u mulitply it.

                     (3/2) 2/3y=  6(3/2)

                           y =  18/2, which when simplified is

                          y= 9
