hey can someone please help me with this...a link to somewhere that explains it or an answer to it and how you got it would help me loads.

sketch the graph of the functions

A. g(x) = f(x)+1

B. h(x) = f(x+1).

i realise a graph question cant really be fully answered but can someone tell me how to get the points?

  1. The best way to solve these is to see what happens when you plug in zero for x. for g(x) you get f(0)+1, this tells you that g(x) is one higher than f(x).

Plug in zero into h(x) and you get f(1). This tells you that the graph mas been moves one to the left, as to obtain f(0) you must use h(-1).

  2. Hi! These are translation questions :). I presume you've been given the graph of f(x)?

For A) The graph f(x) will be shifted by one unit upwards in the y-axis.

For B) The graph of f(x) will be shifted one unit to the LEFT in the direction of the x-axis :)

    Hope that helps! :D

  3. A. First sketch the graph of f(x) and then draw the same graph in which the y coordinate is one more than the graph of f(x) at all the points.

B.Draw the graph of f(x) and then shift this graph by 1 unit towards -ve' x direction. You will get the graph of h(x).

    Think carefully about it.
