I am buying some boardshorts for a friend of mine for his birthday. He is a serious competitive surfer and I want to get him a nice brand. Can someone tell me the best brands to look at? How much is too much and/or little to spend...just so I know I got the best pair, but not ripped off.

  2. Some good brands:

Quiksilver, O'neill, Rusty, Billabong, Hurley, Lost, etc.

You can expect to pay anywhere from $40 to $60 for a good pair of boardshorts.  Now is usually a good time to find sales though (in the US anyway) because surfwear is not in season.

  3. the first person pretty much said it, just one thing,

be careful when buying something predominently white, look at the material or ask someone to avoid what i did, bought ones that go see-through when wet
