here's the question- Why has Swanage developed as a tourist holiday town?

  1. Research all the factors the town has that would attract tourists. Look at things like the historical monuments, theme parks, rareity of things, family friendly activities, and things like that including accomodation

Around the middle of the nineteenth century it was a fairly quiet port with the main business being limestone.  There was no sign of tourists back then.  However, it's position was fine, sea bathing became fashionable and was considered good for the health and, eventually, the railway arrived.  That made access to the place relatively straightforward.  Its first paddles into being a tourist town involved gently marketing itself as a health resort during the late 1800s.  At the time, there was some conflict between that objective and the limestone exporting business.  As the boats involved had been rather small, that business became uneconomic and died off.

    Anyway, once access was easy enough, it happened to already have the requirements of a small seaside holiday town; a relatively good climate and a nice beach in a sheltered bay.
