I was just recently informed about the genocide. It's amazing how long it's been going on, and I was ignorant of it. It seems like it should be in the news everyday, but it's not surprising that it's not talked about seeing how paris hilton gets 10X more coverage than the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Anyway I looked up several pages about it, and they were all so confusing being that I know nothing at all about it (Like whose "good or bad", and who the victims are.) Can you summarize whats going on in an easy to understand way?

  1. The Sudan was given it's independence from joint Anglo-Egyptian control on January 1, 1956. Since that time, continuous civil war has raged over issues of race, religion and basic totalitarian designs. Since 2000, much of the conflict has been spurred by a desire to kill Christians and agriculture people of the eastern Sudan region known as Darfur. The south and east of Sudan has historically suffered large casualties from marxist leadership in the north. Support in training and materiel has been provided by Cuba, Russia and, to a lesser extent, African nations in close proximity. The reason no one has intervened is due to the fact that the region is so unstable. This is primarily due to the racial and religious hatreds that are everpresent. The totalitarian regimes enable continued destruction of farmlands in the south and continued destitution of the people who call the south and east home.
