i just got this sub the other day and i want to get right to work, i have no box yet or a amp, all i have is the sub, where should i start, when i was doing my homework i found that i should only get a sealed box if room is a factor, (true or false), i was told ported was the way to go, i only have 1 sub and i have a 1993 nissan maxima, room should not be a prob, then i was told that i should have a big box, well not to big but big, (true or false), and last what kind of amp, i was told about hfonics, was also told about kicker amps, if you where in my shoes how whould you go through with this, any questions ask and i will update, thanks a lot

  1. as for box it depends on:

    1. space

    2. sound

    1. if you have lots of space a sealed box, little means you will need a ported box as they are smaller.

    2.  a ported box will be louderto hear but a sealed gives you lower base levels.

it doesnt really matter what amp you get as long as it matches the wattage of the sub but NOT the peak.

match the RMS ie a 2000w RMS to a 2000w amp.

most only go for well named brands as it sounds better when you tell your mates i have a kicker or a kenwood or a JBL.

i have had unnamed brands on many occasions and beaten the *** off most of my friends setups.

  2. first, get the specs of you L7 sub/model. check out if its a dual 4 ohm voice coil or dual 2 ohm voice coil and its rms watt rating.

this is very important because depending on which one you have, it will determine the type of amp you will need so you can get the most power. also, match the amps' rms watts to the sub. in my opinion, if you will be using ONLY one sub, its best if you get a dual 2 ohm voice coil. it can be wired to 1 ohm and get the best out of a 1 ohm stable amp. but if you will later be running 2 L7's... its best if you get dual 4 ohm voice coils. because you will be able to wire each sub to 2 ohms and then into 1 ohm.

about the amp itself, if you are on a budget, hifonics will be a good option. they are the best bang for the buck, but just stay with the Bxi and XXV series models.

for the box, a ported box tuned correctly will be the loudest. it doesnt really require a huge amount of space but it should be able to fit in that car. i would recommend you going with a 32 Hz tuning on the box and have it made so the subwoofers and port face the rear of the car. this will give you the loudest bass and still have good sound quality.

but if you want to have a much better sound quality but not be loud, then make a sealed box. they are also smaller in size compared to a ported box.

a couple of months ago i fited a 18 inch sub in a car. the box took all the space of the trunk. even fiberglassed the spare tire space into the box.  so im pretty sure a 15 inch will fit in that car, it just needs to have a bit more planning on the fabrication process.
