Question:

Can someone help me with my squeaky brakes

I got new brake pads about 2 or 3 months ago and the people at Midas ended up working on the rotors, taking some "meat" off them. It's a 2000 Impreza L and I've noticed in the past couple of weeks that as I brake, there is a squeaky sound emitted from the car. Is this normal or is there something i can do?

  1. Well you might have gotten some crappy brake pads/shoes..

what I always do for the customers is take them back off and sand them down with a sander if they dont want to take them back and get the better ones.. If it stops just fine with no vibrations or jolting.. then that would be it..

  2. take it back to midas, they forgot to put the antisqueak barrier on.

  3. You should get new rotors not re-work the old ones. You may have glazed the new pads which means you will have to get them glaze busted. See http://www.hawkperformance.com/motorspor...

  4. there's a spray you can get at the auto parts store that is supposed to help with it.  you spray it on the rotors i guess.

  5. sometimes when you get brake pads if they arent the really good ones the brakes dust off onto the roders, wich causes a sqeak... if you POWER wash your tires brakes and roders it should help... if not then you already need new brakes

  6. You may need to coat the rear of the brake pads with a layer of silicone. The treatment put on by the brake shop wears through and the piston vibrates against the back of the pad. Silicone acts as a buffer and prevents the metal to metal contact.

  7. Has it rained a lot? That could have them squeak..

Other than that, I would call them back up and have them checked.

  8. I think u need steering fluid.

  9. squeaking is almost normal in a car, depending upon how much you stop.  Did they put lubricant in the proper place when they replaced the pads.  Frankly, I would and am running on ceramic pads now and will always run with ceramic pad.  They don't growl and squeak like the others.
