  1. The spellings are looking a bit strange to me, they often get distorted due to transcribers' problems with Victorian handwriting.  I'd have guessed something like Litchfield would be a bit closer if there isn't a Letchford, and worth trying, so always be creative with the spelling in your searches, a lot of our ancestors could not read or write so they could not check what the census enumerators wrote down.  I've been having to try absurd things like Sharp or Brooks spelt with or without the extra E. Another problem you will have is that civil Birth, Marriage and Death records began to be only kept from 1837 in the UK, so anything earlier than that you need to consult parish records.  I do however subscribe to Ancestry so I could always try to do some look-ups for you if you are still really stuck.  I'm a bit busy at the moment but we can see how it goes.  The Mormons btw only give you the 1881 census free, as you probably know.  The other thing is that local and family history societies for an area sometimes put some free data online so you could try there for Kent.

As Mental Mickey suggests, you must always check and verify all references against original source material, not transcriptions.

  3. Have you tried any of the web sites that provide genealogical information?

You may want to check the grave yards in the Eynsford Kent area.  Gravestones sometimes provide information that is not otherwise available.

You also may want to try the civil records registry in that locality.

    Good luck.

  4. try this site

    http://www.ancestry.com/

  5. Where are you getting his names from?

Coulnd not find a real  good match on any of the names.

  6. Try the site below it might just help if not try www.rootsweb.com.

    Good luck and Good Hunting

  7. I suggest you go to Mormon church geneological society, they can help you find this people in thier archives.

  8. Eynsford is on the IGI at the Mormon website:

    Batch C131382 (Baptisms 1756-1836)

    Batch M131382 (Marriages 1754-1837)

There is also an Independant Baptist church at Eynsford in batch No C091621 (Baptisms 1799-1837).

There is a William Letchford baptised on Dec 21st 1834 to parents Aaron and Ann Letchford.  If these names match his parents in the 1841 and/or 1851 censuses, then this is your man.

I would suggest that Aaron Letchford's marriage could possibly be the one on the IGI at Orpington, Kent on 03 March 1834 to Ann TULET given that both locations are within a few miles of each other in the same part of Kent.

I would try and get hold of the records yourself though.  That 1834 marriage record should ideally say that the groom is of Eyesford and the bride of Orpington.  Until you see it for yourself at the Kent County Record Office (Maidstone I think), who can say?  One can only guess based on what is on the IGI.  It's a finding aid.  Nothing else.  Like all websites.

EDIT:  I see Tebs above has come to the same conclusion. Doh!!  At least we're both in agreement.
