Tonight we found this bird, who couldn't fly very well or for very long. We set it down and when my dog came over he scared it, the bird tried to fly but only made it a few feet before he fell and my dog got it. It is still alive, it moves breathers and looks at us, sometimes it even chirps. I was wondering if its too late to help it or not? It's foot/leg can't tell which yet, is hurt and he can't stand on it without leaning against something. Will it be able to fly eventually? Please, I don't know what I can do, or if there is anything I can do for it. If you have any suggestions please give them to me! Thank you in advance!

  1. wrap the hurt birds leg with bandge similar to the stuff people use when thier leg is fracured.and keep it in a place thats safe.If that does,nt work try taking it to a vet:)

(I hope the bird recovers quickly)

  2. This may be a baby bird that has not yet learned to fly.  If it has an injured leg, it needs to go to a local wildlife rehab, not a vet..they will most likely euthanize it, and they are not permitted to treat wildlife anyway.  Look here for a rehab near you:

  3. My mom used to put a splint on birds legs all of the time, keep them until they healed, and then let them go. Good luck.

If you call animal control, they will most likely kill it.

  4. call animal patrol or whatever to come pick it up

  5. Im no bird expert but the best thing i would do is to take it to the vet at least to see if its seriously injured

  6. don't listen to anybody. I am a top researcher on birds and I am a veterinarian and love birds. it is ok a cat or dog might have got it. Try to find a cheap cage put him in there and feed him bird seed and worms. Try to wrap up the wing with some Gauss like at the dentist. In a few weeks it should be able to fly. So put him outside and throw him up in the air if he does not fly catch him and keep him a little while more. If he does not get better put him in the back yardand keep your dog away from the bird. and let him stay in your back yard for two weeks then just leave him alone. P.S. dont listen to birdgirl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. You should try to find out if there's a local wildlife refuge that would let you drop him off, and if not, then there is always an emergency vet around.  It's better for you to take him in sooner, in case he is suffering, and being put down would be preferable to suffering.  In the meantime, calm him down by putting him in a small, quiet, dark space, away from your dog!  You don't want to cause him more suffering by stressing him out.  Maybe make a little bed in a shoebox and put him in a small bathroom alone?  Good luck!

  8. Its never too late to help an animal in need for your help.

First off you need to get it in a quiet room in a cage with it covered so it will stay calm. Stress can kill the bird. You need to give it some feed and water. Depending on how old it is it needs proper feed. If its not full grown and cant sit on your finger and such it is a fledgling. He needs to eat watermelon, tomatoe, lettuce(NO ICEBURGE, ONLY Romane), and apple PEICES. Also Mealworms from a petstore. You will need to CUT there HEADS OFF or they WILL EAT the birds Insides and KILL it. If it pecks at seeds then you need to just put it in a lid or something in the cage. If he isnt you need to handfeed him. You can handfeed him dogchow that you moisen in hot water. Then you will get the peices out and poor out the water and mush it up and feed it to him. You may need to use a syring if its young but if not you just out it with the other fruits and such.

After it streangthens and hopps about you need to put it back outside. Its mom was caring for it, its a fledgling, they can care for themselves for the most part place him in a tree and gert away so mom can feed him. Stay out of site.

Also DONT EVER let YOUR DOG HURT a POOR little Bird. You could have caused it its life, a dog can hurt the babys insides. Dont let your dog near it. Dont let it outside for a while expecially in the area where you are to put the baby please,

    Bethani

Eventually it will be anble to fly.

  9. u should take it to a local vet or rspca

if it is really badly hurt they might have 2 put it down :( *cry*

but i could be in heaps of pain

and try and keep it away from ur dog

  10. We went through a similar situation last year with a baby robin thats leg was injured by a dog. My kids and I fed it lots and lots of worms, berries and even can cat food and it lived and grew stronger for weeks until a cat  got it through the cage. Although not a great ending it is possible to survive.  Easier solution though would be to call your local veterinarian and ask for the number to your wildlife rescue organization. They would know if it would be kind or cruel to try to save it.  Good Luck. p.s. I used and eye dropper for water in the beginning.

  11. try taking it to a vet tomorrow
