what percent of 50 is 6. what am i doing wrong they said in class if the problem says what percent you put the 50 over 100 and cross multiply.this is not right. please explain this to me.

  1. Yes, you do put 50 over 100, because you are trying to find percent, and 100 is percent. Then you would put 6 over x because you don't know what it is out of. Then you just cross multiply:

    600=50x and solve.


  2. It is cross multiplying. The 6 goes over the 50, because the six is coming out of the fifity and and x goes over the 100. The x is the variable to represent the pertentage, x goes over 100 because a percent is out of 100. SO your problem will look like this.

    6/50 x X/100

  3. Remember this:  is/of=%/100.  So, is 6 means 6 is in the numerator.  Of 50 means of is in the denominator.  You know you have 100 in the denominator for the second part, so all you need to do is find the percent.

    6/50=%/100.  So, 100*6/50=12.
