Can an object have both kinetic energy and potential energy at the same time? Explaine.

  1. An object can have both kinetic and potential energy when in the middle of a fall.  An example is a yoyo halfway down its string.  It has kinetic energy because it is moving, and it has potential energy because it still has halfway down the string to move ( assuming its held at the correct height above ground).


  2. No, If an object has potential energy, its not moving. For example, a ball sitting on a window sill. It has the "potential" to start moving.Once the ball falls, the potential energy turns to kentic energy.  If the ball was just on the floor, not moving, it has neither potential or kentic energy. But they cannot have both.

  3. no because kenetic energy is when it is moving, and potential is when it is still. it cant be moving and still at the same time!
