Can someone help me with this question about the rules of 9-BALL ??

Suppose that you shoot and hit your object ball (lowest numbered on the table) and it hits the nine. The nine is pocketed. You win, right?

But what if - in the same shot - after the nine goes in the cue ball goes in too. Meaning you sewer after you pocket the nine. Do you win? Do you lose? Or is the nine respotted and its ball in hand for your opponent?

Thanks!

  1. Well you do win if you hit the lowest ball on the table first and pocket the 9-ball. But i am not sure what happens if you get the white one in after that. I think it is ball in hand for the other player.

  2. Mr. Vegas is right.  Scratching after pocketing the 9 is not a loss.  You simply spot the 9 and the following player gets ball in hand.

  3. Answer to the first part of the question is yes

    Answer to the second part of the question is the 9 is spotted and your opponent

  4. You would lose if you were playing with me and my mates.

  5. Edit: oops, wrong answer. Here is the answer I think.

    3.5 Continuing Play

    1.  After the break (and push-out, if one occurs), play continues as

    follows:

    a. the lowest numbered ball on the table must be the first

    object ball contacted by the cue ball, or it is a foul;

    b. If you legally pocket any ball, your inning continues;

    c. if the 9-ball is pocketed on a shot in which a foul occurs or

    if it is jumped, it is spotted;

    d. other jumped balls and illegally pocketed balls are not

    returned to the table.

    Based on these rules, if you get the 9 in you win, but if you foul afterwards it doesn't count, and the 9 ball is spotted.

    If you were casually playing, most people would consider it a loss though

  6. Rules of 9 ball are pretty much standard anywhere, there is no difference between casual and tournament rules. There is only a difference between those who know the rules and those who don't.

    In 9 ball, anytime you contact your ball first and ANYTHING goes in, it is a legally pocketed ball, and your turn continues. The game ends any time the 9 is pocketed on a legal shot. So, if you're on the 2 ball and hit it first and then pocket the 9, it is a win.

    Whenever you pocket the 9 ball on the same shot as a foul, the 9 is spotted and your opponent gets ball in hand anywhere on the table. There are no valid rules anywhere that state that this is a loss.
