"Flowers that bloom too quickly are fair game for a late frost."

my friend heard it off of an older show calledd Murder, She Wrote

if it helps this is wat she said..........

okay, so the main character and this suitor, they start to hit it off really well. but the main character is old fashioned and thinks things are moving a little to fast. she's talking to this guy and she has this saying.

"Flowers that bloom too quickly are fair game fora late frost."

have any ideas ??

    You already have a source, so I'm going to assume you need help understanding it.  Okay.

    Taken just on its own, it's referring to early spring flowers ... presuming we're talking about the northern hemisphere, a flower that blooms in, say, March, might have bloomed too soon.  Frosts still happen at night in March, in some parts, you see, and the frost will kill most flowers.  

    Taken in that context, it's warning of the dangers of jumping in to the relationship before you know enough about the other person.  For example, in this case, http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_294... , the bride married the groom before knowing he was a wanted man by the police.
