Question:

Can someone help me with vibrato on the oboe?

My primary instrument is the Saxophone, but I have recently taken up the oboe. On saxophone, we use a jaw vibrato, but it is my understanding that jaw vibrato is not "correct" on oboe. It is so tempting to use on the oboe......anyways, I would like to learn how to do diaphragm vibrato and do not currently have a lessons teacher. Can anyone help me?

Thank You

  1. I played oboe before sax and understand what you're going through. I used my lips for vibrato on oboe and bassoon and diaphragm vibrato on sax. It's really hard to explain though. So try using your lips, just slightly move them.

  2. I'm an oboe major. and it basically comes from your upper stomach. Play it like your lungs are cold and shivering.
