I have already been hired and would leave within the next week but have some doubts. The job that I will be doing is called the "Utility Gallery". I am American.

Can someone tell me what this job is about and if you think a 4 month contract with Norweigen Cruise Lines is worth it?

  1. Taking a SWAG at it here.  But that sounds like kitchen work.  I suspect that the utility gallery is the location on the ship where all the food prep is done, cutting on vegitables, preparing of various pieces of meat, etc.  They have one spot on the ship where a lot of the prep work is done then they send the food to the various kitchens to be prepared as directed.

The big thing to remember here is that depending on wether you have been hired by NCL or NCL America you could be looking at some long work hours.  NCL does not have the employment concerns and rules that NCL America does.  NCL America has to follow US Labor laws.

Would a 4 month contract be work it.  Probably.  You will get to visit some great places and save the bulk of your income since you will not have housing concerns.

  2. I think you mean Galley Utility... if is that, it means you will be inside the kitchen for 12 or 14 hours a day, doing things like cutting vegetables and cleaning the kitchen. Usually not well paid. It is really hard!

But a 4 month contract is ok, when you will start becoming crazy, it is time to go back home! I've been onboard for 8 months.

It is nice because you can go to many places that you would never be travelling by yourself, and better, you are paid for that! And you doesn't have to pay for food and to live there, so your money is all for you. This is the best thing.

  3. Did they not explain to you what the job entails?

I would definitely call them back to find out.

You can try to google it and see what comes up.
