  1. claims?

NOT enough info. . . .partner do you work at all, any income?  Are you a dependent of your partner?

Not married, so you can't file joint tax returns

Excellent to joint the 401k and to contribute at maximum level, and to get maximum employer contribution

Health insurance is generally a better bet than paying your own medical bills...at least employed partner should have company insurance

Do you two/'will you two own a home?  What deductions and credits will you have when filing taxes?

  2. There is no state tax in Florida, so go to irs.gov and fill out hypothetical tax forms for 2007 to get an approximate idea.

Although, whether he will get a refund or owe at the end of the year depends upon what he puts on his W-4.  He should probably use one less allowance due to having changed jobs, and then bump it up by 1 at the end of the year.

  3. There's no easy answer to that question because of the deductions that will be claimed or not claimed, costs of medical and other benefits that are employee funded, whether he chooses a 401K retirement plan (and if employer contributes to it). There will be Federal IRS tax, state tax, local tax, etc. that are deducted. Some people claim dependants while others do not. If the employer offers programs like flexible spending accounts for medical, it reduces taxes but also reduces take

    home amounts as well.

  4. www.paycheckcity.com.

Enter the gross pay per pay period, the info that he expects to put on the W-4, etc.
