I live in an old house (probably built around 1940) located in Connecticut. Older homes like mine usually have layers of wallpaper sealed on every inch of the house. It has been raining heavily during this summer and the rain is leaking through my window. The water gets between the wallpaper and the wall causing the wallpaper to peel. I teared off some wallpaper a few weeks ago and found this black fuzzy mold that is kind of chalky. It rained today and I teared off some more wallpaper and it looks like this mold or mildew is growing up my wall. Does anyone know what this is and should I be worried?

  1. Yes, most definatly the window has been leeking before and is only being revealed now. What your are seeing is surface mold and needs to be cleaned with bleach. The only way to fix it is to replace the window. You will want to do this asap before the mold spreads.

  2. Check this out...you may be able to identify it yourself to be sure

ewww...its given me the ebbie-jeebies just thinking about it!

Good luck, and be careful around that stuff!
