  1. Candide by Voltaire is very short and is an easy to understand read, plus a pretty decent book.

If you want short, classic, high/school adult level that you can find free on the internet, this is the best one I can think of.

  2. Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare and A Midsummer Night's Dream by the same are both available online. They're pretty good and short.

  3. Franz Kafka ... The Metamorphosis

  4. I know why the Caged bird sings can work...

  5. Of mice and men. it is only about 110 pages. i had to read it in 10th grade

  6. War of the Worlds-H.G.Wells

    The Cosmic Trilogy-C.S.Lewis

    Frankenstein-Mary Shelly

    Fahrenheit 451-Ray Bradbury

    The Lord of the Rings-J.R.R.Tolkien

    The Hobbit-J.R.R.Tolkien

    The Chronicles of Narnia-C.S.Lewis

    1984-George Orwell

    Animal Farm-George Orwell

You can get most if not all of these books at your local library, and if you can't for one reason or another than check out this online library www.truly-free.org . It's legal. The last six books in the list can be downloaded from there.

    Enjoy and good luck

  7. One of my favorite "classics" was Charles Dickens' 'A Tale of Two Cities'.  I couldn't put it down - even though it was kind of long, it didn't seem like it to me and I read it in two days.

You could try getting the book on tape...

    Good luck!

  8. Of Mice and Men is very depressing so I wouldn't suggest that :P

To be honest, would try "To Kill a Mockingbird." I'm not sure if you can find it on the net but, it's is both interesting and simply written. That book  honestly changed my life, it doesn't preach, it's just a perfect little story.

It only took me a weekend to read too.
