Can someone on this board please explain the % in a AFL Ladder pleased?

Its just the points for divided by the points against.

For example West Coast have 1259 points for and 1077 points against. Divide them and you get 1.168, or 1.17. Which is basically saying they have scored 117% of points against them. If that makes sense.

its the compared amount of points scored to points conceved.

Lets say a team in the season scored 1000 points and conceved 1000 points then the percent would be 100%...

but if the team only scored 500 points to the 1000 against it would be 50%.

Points scored for compared against points scored against will equal a percentage. i.e. pf = 100 pa = 50 this = 50%

This has already been answered by some of the above replies, but i will give it a go too.

% is  points for divided by points against mutiplied by 100

eg. team points for = 900  points against =  672

900/672 = 1.33928571 x 100 = 133.92%

It's generally used as a tie breaker. What you do is divide the points for by the points against and move the decimal two places to the right. What it gives you is the percentage of points scored over points scored against. For example, if team 'A' has scored 1100 points and has given up 1000 their percentage would be 110.00 as they have scored 10% more points than they have given up. It is a general indicator of their average margin of victory- or defeat. It becomes a tie breaker between teams with identical records on the ladder, the team with the higher percentage ranks higher on the ladder.
