  1. think of it as a very small scab in your blood vessel that could potentially kill you. platelets cause the blood  to thicken ( thats why a cut will scab over) and if it breaks loose it  could go into your heart, lungs, or brain. death is usually the result. hope you dont have one

  2. Blood clotting is a natural process in which protein and platelets (cell fragments) in your blood stick together and plug a cut in the blood vessel. Once the surrounding tissue is healed, the careful process of dissolving the blood clot begins. However, if the clot breaks loose and travels through the bloodstream, it may end up blocking a blood vessel in the brain, causing a stroke, or in the heart, causing a heart attack.

  3. A blood clot is your bodies response to cover up a hole in your body. Your blood contains platelets which are a protein that are used to clot blood. When these platelets find a "hole" that needs to be mended they will join together to form a "plug" to cover the hole. Think of it as a someone trying to use small pebbles to cover up the drain in the bath tub so the water won't run out.

Not to complicate to much.. but sometimes the hole may be too big to fix with just platelets. So your body will create a net (made of a protein called fibrinogen) which will help cover the wound and will also catch extra platelets to help fix the problem thus making the clot larger.
