  1. Civilization basically depends on social activity, in part because it takes so long to raise children and takes the women out of certain aspects of the workforce for so long.  Sometimes people say "Humans require society" and that raises arguments from people who believe they prefer to live alone and can, but while a few specific individuals may be able to get away with that, as a whole failure of the society means death of the people or at least of civilized culture (see Myanmar/Burma)

  2. because we are a herd animal and have herd instincts for relationships. We can look at ourselves through the lens of any discipine but whatever way you cut it we are looking thorugh our own social and psychological process.

  3. Sounds like a closed-minded sociologist, making that statement.

Farel Children are the prime example in this case.  Some  people believe they've never existed, but it is stupid to believe that, imo.  They may or may not exist these days, but they undoubtedly did at some time.

All humans known to us are social.  If they weren't, how would we know about them, because we'd have never interacted with them in some way, neh?

Many sociologist twist the term of "human" into a being able to communicate with other humans; which essentially requires some form of language.  I don't believe this to be true, as i think a human is any human being who can think.  If you've never had a word on the tip of your tongue, yet could not say it... you still knew what it meant, you just couldn't put the word to it.  This implies that knowledge is not dependant on language.  The same goes if you've ever heard a word, and understood the meaning, but could not define it.

Rational thought is not dependant on communication, it goes the other way around.  So, even if you've never communicated with others, you're still human.  To think otherwise is inhumane, imo.

If you want to p**s of your Soc prof explain to him/her why human life is NOT always social.  Or at least why it could NOT be social.  As far as we know it usually is, but that doesn't discount the possibility that it is not.

If you really want to just answer why human life is presumed to be social though... it is because we survive by learning from eachother.  How to hunt, where to find food, how to make shelter.  The presumption is without communication and learning, OR working together, we couldn't survive.  It is still exactly that though, a presumption.
