What are clauses and predicates and anything else that has anything to do with explaining why you put a comma in this sentence, "Due to the City of Columbia Mandated Water Survival skills program, there will be NO LAP SWIMMING..." The comma is between program and there.

  1. The opening dependent clause (due to the City of Columbia Mandated Water Survival skills program) is very long and therefore must be followed by a comma.

The predicate is the part of the sentence that contains the main verb.  In this case, it's swimming.

By the way, this is a very poor sentence.  It should be entirely re-written:  "There will be NO LAP SWIMMING because of the mandated Water Survival Skills Program of the City of Columbia."  The important part of the sentence is NO LAP SWIMMING, and in the original version, that information is totally lost.

  2. Well it's not to do with Santa Claus!

Any good dictionary (use the library if you don't have one) will explain.

  3. Not sure about a clause, but a predicate is the verb part of a sentence, the part that says the action that is happening to the subject. e.g.

"My friend Max bought a bicycle." In this sentence, the subject is 'My friend Max', and 'bought a bicycle' is the predicate. Hope this helped a little. :)
