Can someone please explain to me how to do this maths question?

A 6 sided die has the numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 on its faces. If 2 of these dice are rolled what is the probability of obtaining:

a) a total of 7?

b) a total less than 4?

c) a total that is even?

    its not too hard.

    a total less than four is probbaly not as great a chance.

    and an even number would be like 50-50

    just think.

    P(3 &4)  = 1/6 x 1/6

    in the brackets it means the probability,   P of getting 2 and 5 for the second dice

             multiply and add it up ull get answer for part A

    0,0  0,1  0,2  0,3  0,4  0,5

    1,0  1,1  1,2  1,3  1,4  1,5

    2,0  2,1  2,2  2,3  2,4  2,5

    3,0  3,1  3,2  3,3  3,4  3,5          This shows all the possible outcomes

    4,0  4,1  4,2  4,3  4,4  4,5          of throwing 2 dice.

    5,0  5,1  5,2  5,3  5,4  5,5

    A) The possible outcomes of throwing a total of 7 are:

    5,2

    2,5

    3,4

    4,3

    If you take these from the above table, this means that there is a 4/36 chance of rolling a total of 7      P(total of 7) = 1/9

    B) Possible outcomes of rolling less than a 4 are:

    0,0  0,1  0,2  0,3

    1,0  1,1  1,2

    2,0  2,1

    3,0

    Which gives you 10 possible answers form the 36, giving:

    P(less than 4) = 5/18

    C) Chances of rolling an even number gives 17 out of 36 (count them from the above table,  so P(even) = 17/36

  7. well lets start off you have 6 sides in a die and your using two of them so thats in total of 12 sides and your rolling both dies. so that becomes your constant in this case your x. and no repeats.

    a) a total of 7 by rolling both dice

    2+5, , 3+4 those are 2 ways 2/12

    so the prob of rolling a total less than 7 is less than 16%

    b) less than 4 and your still rolling two dice.

    0+0, 0+1,0+2, 0+3=4

    1+1, 1+2=2

    which gives you a grand total of 6 ways.

    so the prob of rolling a total less than 4 are 6/12 which is 50%

    a total that is even

    0+0, 0+2 , 0+4=3

    1+3, 1+5=2

    2+2, 2+4=2

    3+3=1

    4+4=1

    5+3, 5+5=2

    so the prob of rolling an even number is 11/12 91%

  10. Each of the numbers on the one die has a chance of matching up with 6 different numbers on the other die. So 6 times 6 is 36 total different choices. How many possibilities are there for the various categories?  ie. How many of the possibilities add up to 7? How many of the possibilities are less than 4? How many of the possibilities add up to even?

    a. 4:36 or 1:4

    b. 5:36

    c. 12:36 or 1:3
