Can someone please explain to me the point of taking tax off people and then giving it back to them?

This is surely madness and will esult in more tax c**k ups by that useless incompetent arm of government known as Her Majesty's Customs and Revenue.

People will avoid claiming rebates because of the experiences of others who have found themselves facing huge demands for repayments of alleged overpayment of rebates. Overpayments made because the Revenue employ idiots.

Don't complain. Atleast you're not taxed based on your yearly income.

You know, we didn't want to be taxed for tea so we broke away from England. But today I'm taxed up the @ss from everything that I buy, to how much the government takes out of my paycheck, and the money I pay in income tax. I'm sorry but doesn't that defeat the purpose for my country's existence (USA)? See, people are so stupid in my country that they don't even realize that paying taxes is unconstitutional. I wouldn't mind paying taxes if I could choose what my money was being used for. I'm sick and tired of paying for Bush's war. If I had the money right now I'd move out of the country. But no, the government makes sure that I'm left with nothing and no means to get out alive.

This is a very good system for employing the useless people in tax administration so they cant make mistakes in real jobs and maybe become a danger to society.

Something has to be done to employ all those "Civil" servants.We get two copies each when they threaten us,annually.

if the bad people,,,, ie the nasty  government, take it away from us, then the nice people,,,,, ie the good government give it back, then we will all run off to the polling station to vote for the nice people that gave us our money back. simple isnt it ???? .

I take it you are refering to the 10p fiasco.  It seems to me that whilst the Govenment is reducing the tax benefits for those that are working, ie you have to earn wage to be paying the 10p rate of tax, the "refunds" will benefit those that are working and also those that are not.

It seems to be adding to the "i cant see the point of working" culture that exists in certain elements of our society.

You tax everybody, but you give it back only to groups of people selected by you. That can be very useful when you need things from those people like votes!
