Can someone please explain to me what wifi is?

What exactly is wifi? I know that it is used for laptops to connect to the internet, but is it built in with every laptop? do you need to buy a seperate modem type thing to use it??

Wifi is a short range wireless system to connect a computer to a network (most networks are also connected to the Internet and can route requests from the machine to it).

Most laptops available today have built in wireless adaptors, but not all do.

A USB WiFi adaptor costs about £10.

wifi is simply internet connection... depending on where you are you can get wifi connection, if your in the middle of nowhere the chances are there is no wifi connection, but if your at home you have wifi connection because its the only way you can access the internet on a computer, kind of like cell phone reception, if there isnt any cell phone towers to give you reception, your phone wont work, if there isnt any wifi connection, your computer will work, but u cant get on theinternet

wifi stands for wireless fidelity. it simply means you are using radio waves to capture and transmit information like a cell phone.-blurey
