I have yet to understand why a lot of Americans do not want universal health care; explain it to me.

And if your argument is taxes, I would much rather pay taxes for my citizens than for politicians taking their vacation in Fiji

  1. before i answer that question, let me ask you a few.

why do foreign doctors from all over the world move to america to set up their practice?

where do world leaders go for medical treatment when they fall ill?

if police officers made $200,000 a year, do you think we'd have alot more police officers?

    well here's your answer.

foreign doctors move here because they will make probably 10 times more money here than in their home country.

this in turn attracts some of the brightest most competent doctors on the planet. that's why world leaders come here for treatment. they know the will get the best available.

american doctors will work their hardest to be the best doctors when they know they will be rewarded with high salaries.

if you take away doctor's incentive and treat them as mere civil servants who make meager salaries, we will have fewer doctors plus doctors who don't care and treat their patients like products on an assembly line.

plus, if going to the doctor cost next to nothing, people will go everytime they get the sniffles or stub a toe which means there will be too many patients and not enough doctors or funds to keep their practice going.

  2. Either that or the explanation is that it's too close to socialism. I'm covered so I don't care what happens to those who don't have it. Oh well. Unionized labor for teh win.

  3. d**n Republicians!!

  4. Besides ridiculously high taxes, excessive paperwork & regulations, & the whole socialism thing, there's the fact that the US Federal Government cannot do anything well. I've worked as an IT contractor to IRS, Customs & the SSA. None of these federal organizations function well. How can they went their employes cant be fired, get regular raises not based on merit & have rules & regulations changed on whim when Congress needs to gain a few votes? That's why contractors were hired - to do the actual work.

Do you think the IRS or Social Security administration are great institutions that do their job well? The simple fact is the federal gov't has to do a few things like maintain an army, but it CANNOT do anything well. If they get their hands on Healthcare it'll be a disaster.

  5. Most people are ignorant or apathetic.

They're scared that socialist programs like that would make the country "Communist". Most of the people against both universal health care, socialism, and communism, have no idea what they actually are, or how they work. All they know is what the people on TV told them to believe.

A patient shouldn't have to decide between helping a doctor pay for a new Benz, or losing their leg, or life. Which is what it boils down to when it comes to private health care. Only the people who can afford the medicine, procedures, doctor visits, insurance, etc. can actually get the help they need. Which is basically saying, the only people who should get medical care are those who can afford it = Social Darwinism.

Most people are against any type of taxes because taxes are used to fund welfare programs (universal health care, food stamps, etc.). People have no education on any of these subjects, so they're automatically against it (because they don't want to pay some freeloader's way) when they have no statistical evidence (outside of isolated incidents) to prove any of their claims that freeloaders make up a majority of the people using welfare programs. And of course taxes would go up. But you know what? You would also get that money back in the form of FREE medical care.

    Peace
