Can someone please explian this to me?????

that's the doctor's report for my mum's CT scan for her spine... I don't really get it, it's hard english... can someone explain it in a basic english like, what are they really trying to say... whats wrong???

( Mild degenerative disc disease noted in the lower lumbar spine as described above without associated neural impingement or central canal stenosis. )

  1. Hey, okay, this is my simple explanation

    You know how in between each spinal peice, there is like a fluid substance? Mild degenerative disc disease is when some of this fluid is lost.

    The lower lumbar spine region is at the bottom of the spine, just above the tail bone.

    So, what it is actually saying is...

    There is a mild/small loss of fluid in between the spinal cord peices in the lower part of the spine, but it is not resulting in much damage because it is mild

This means your mom probably has lower back pain all the time.  There is some degeneration, which means wearing out, of the material between her vertebra.  However, there is no nerve damage (which is very good) and there is no central canal stenosis, which would be a narrowing (stenosis) of the center part of the spine where the spinal cord runs up through the vertebra.  

    This is like saying her back hurts because the bones are getting old and worn, but nothing else important is being pinched or hurt yet.  Yay!
