  1. Wikipedia:

Code Orange (2005) is a young adult novel by Caroline B. Cooney. It is about a teenage boy who is care-free and doesn't worry about blackouts or grades or anything, which is why he's late starting his advanced biology report. He would rather watch a game or listen to his iPod than do research on infectious diseases. He finds some old medical books in his weekend house, but when he finds smallpox scabs in one of the books in a envelope, it's no longer about a grade -- it's life and death. It has the potential to kill everyone in New York City. [1]

    Book Review:

Mitty’s science paper puts in motion an experience that’s thrilling but educational at the same time. This book will give your IPod a rest and keep you on the edge of your seat wanting to know what will happen next. Mitty, a high school slacker gets up to his neck in trouble. Mitty might just be the only person in America with smallpox and not only that, he could spread it to. Throughout the book Mitty must live in fear from possibly having smallpox. Because of the terrible mistake Mitty made by breathing in smallpox scabs, it changes his life completely, and the people surrounding him. If you want to be pumped full with action and excitement and learn about deadly diseases on the side, this is the book for you!

If you liked the book, “The Outsiders” you will definitely like, “Code Orange.” Both books are about kids who have to deal with their problems on their own and get in worse trouble doing it. Also if you liked the violence and action in, “The Outsiders” you will be even more impressed with the action in, “Code Orange.”

“Code Orange” is a very thrilling book, but gets off to quite a slow start. Until you get to about the 5th chapter all you’re really reading is a medical encyclopedia. Don’t let the beginning of the book fool you, it will get interesting. Once the book got interesting for me all I wanted to know was, “Does Mitty have smallpox?” I would read page after page after page until I finally found out.

Although this book takes a while to really get, “jumping” there is only one other thing I would change. The ending. In the end Olivia, the girl who really likes Mitty is mad at him. I wish it ended with something I wouldn’t have to keep on my mind. A more sweet but short ending. All together this was a wonderful book I will always remember.[2]

I hope that helps a little!!
