My Daughter is 10 months, and a very FUSSY baby, and she has always been like this. She also has a very mild case of acid reflux, and she has gas alot. I have heard GRIPE WATER can help with these things...Is she too old to take GRIPE WATER? What are you experiences?

  1. I've used gripe water a lot with my son. It helps with any tummy problems. I usually also try some heat on the tummy. Like a heating pad. But yes, give her some gripe water. She's not too old. Even if it doesn't help, it's worth a try.

p.s. you can buy ones without any alcohol in it.

not that the ones with alcohol have a significant amount.

  2. Gripe water is just herbal remedies for digestive issues.  Each brand contains different herbs in different amounts.  I'm not familiar with the different brands, but I know that they contain stuff like chamomile, peppermint and other stuff that I can't remember.  Chamomile helps with my reflux a lot, so I would use it on my baby.

  3. Yes, Gripe Water is a miracle worker, and your child is not too old.  Just buy it.  It works wonders.

  4. We give our son Cocyntal for his tummy troubles. You can buy it at any health food store. He hated the Gripe water (if you do decide to give her gripe water buy the alcohol free kind nuthin' worse then a baby with a hang over)..

  5. For reflux  you can try wedging her crib mattress a bit so she is angled a little.

I do know you need to be careful on gripe water only because there is alcohol content in it. Even the American brands can contain some alcohol.  So look for one with no alcohol.

also peppermint is a natural tummy calmer.

    good luck to you.

  6. i used gripe water when ruby was younger. she didn't have reflux or any type of colic, but she wads gassy at times and had the hiccups a lot. i know for sure it worked 70% of the time on the hiccups. i am not certain about her belly, but it seemed to soothe her at least. and she loved it! it was easy to get her to take it, and it's safe, so i say give it a try. good luck.

  7. "Gripe water is a home remedy for babies with colic, gas, teething pain, reflux or other stomach ailments. Its ingredients vary, and may include alcohol, bicarbonate, ginger, dill, fennel and chamomile. It is typically given to the infant with a dropper in liquid form; a single dose may be 2.5 to 10 ml, depending on the age of the baby, repeated several times daily."

Because the main ingredient of gripe water is sodium bicarbonate (a base), it is given to neutralize the acid in your baby's stomach.

If your baby has GERD (acid reflux) she may already be on medication to turn the acid off.

There is also Ovol (simethicone) to dispel the gas in her tummy (available without a prescription).

BEFORE giving her anything in addition to what the doctor has already prescribed, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.

    Best wishes
