Lately when she takes about 7 steps, she feels like she's in a tunnel, loses all hearing and falls backward. I am constantly checking her b.p.. runs about 110/68 w/pulse of 55. 1. could it be vertigo, or an ear infection which also caused the deafness? and can cause dizziness too? i hope she is ok but a trip to check those ears out is required cant go on like this .maybe go and ring nhs 24 ?

  2. Sounds to me like she's got some sort of inner ear thing going on, maybe vertigo.  Have you tried her BP when she stands up?  If it drops too low she could be on too much BP med.

  3. What age your mother is? With old cholesterol has tendency has to increase. in all the way, make sure your mother take a lot legumes , fruits , vegetables, limit or reduce bad cholesterol food . take one wine glass by day

  4. I agree with the others, it sounds like vertigo.

  5. sounds a bit like my mother, she has dis-positional vertigo

  6. Catherine,

I would look into the BP meds being the culprit here first.

There may be times that her PB medication causes extreme lows in BP which will make her pass out.

I had the exact same symptoms when I was on BP medication, describing a feeling like one is in a tunnel is a good way to describe what I experienced.

It was like just being cut off from all other senses when it happens. Like you are in your own, quiet world.

To rule that out take her BP as soon as she passes out or feels faint. You can purchase a BP monitor online or at the pharmacy.

Stay away from the 50 dollar and under ones my experience has been they aren't reliable.

BP meds act as diuretics and can make it easy for the person taking them to get dehydrated which can also cause fainting.

The easiest way to tell if someone is dehydrated is to pinch their skin on the top of their hand, pull it up like a tent.

When you release the skin it should spring back into place quickly, if the skin stays up like a tent or slowly goes back down they are dehydrated.

If you can rule out the BP medications then a couple other things I would look into are Vertigo and her blood sugar levels.

I know that doctors can be difficult and also seem downright lazy.

But if it is a sudden BP drop then it would be really hard for the doctor to see it. Just going to the doctor will raise my BP. So it is perfectly ok for you to accompany her with a list of things you would like her to be tested for. Perhaps even her insurance company will reimburse you for a BP monitor.

I wish you the best of luck.

I know how stressful it can be when a loved one is ill.

Don't forget to take care of yourself too.
