  1. Here's a quick brief of history in Rugby.

Rugby came from  a name of a place in England where it was known to have started from.

It started as a game of football in the 1800's which in those days, it was a kicking game before splitting into 2 separate games in 1823.

This was because of a young boy who went to Rugby School known as William Webb Ellis, picked up and ran with the ball under his arms.

By 1840 this became the norm.

The second remained devoted to the kicking game and later developed and now known in some parts of the world called Soccer. In other parts of the World the kicking game is still call Football.

PS. You will find a lot more interesting information by surfing the net, including the USA winning the Gold metal in last 15 aside Rugby matches and possibly the last ever in the Olympic Games.

  2. I have to ask this question.  Are you stoned or stupid?  Kids today have it so easy when doing research.  Why not type into a search engine, "History of Rugby?"  When I was in school, late 70's early 80's, we actually had to read and find the information that we needed to complete our research or a paper.  After spending hours going through books and encyclopedias, we would gather enough info to write our paper.  Try it some time without using your computer.

  3. Rugby was born when, in 1823, a young man named William Webb Ellis "took the ball in his arms(i.e. caught it) and ran", showing "a fine disregard", while playing Rugby School's (England) already distinctive version of football.

In 1845, 3 boys published the first set of written rules.

In 1948, the Rugby League International Federation (RLIF)was set up in Bordeaux (France) to oversee rugby leagues world wide. From this meeting, the first "rugby world cup" was played in France in 1954.

  5. William Webb Ellis didn't "pick up a ball and run with it"

What a load of sentimental toss!

Can you imagine if some one did that.

    They'd get a kicking.

    As RB has already said.

Do some research you lazy *** wit.

All you have to do these days is stick your question into a search engine.

  6. It is highly disputed that Web Ellis did indeed pick up the ball rather it was likely happening all over (deliberate hand ball in soccer they call it) On the the other hand as others have said to get a full insight into rugby you will have to read through lots of books and webpages to fully understand the sport and its history (Rugby league or rugby union? politics or sport?

    Good luck with your search

  7. Okay everyone knows about William Webb Ellis that picked up the ball in a soccer match but the first World cup was played in Australia and New Zea land was the winner in 1987. The world cup is dominated by southern hemisphere teams.

    1987: New Zea land

    1991:Australia

    1995:South Africa

    1999:Australia

    2003:England

    2007:SOUTH AFRICA

    Yeah go Springboks
