  1. A good option would be to look at courses that include a Service Learning component.  Many colleges are now including volunteerism in their courses.  The student gets experience in their craft and the nonprofit gets a service so it is a win/win collaboration.

Also, the Greek system usually has community service projects and activities with their adopted organizations.  It would be possible for you to piggy back on one of their Sat. days of service.  Contact your student activities office and most likely they have already planned a campus wide service day.

Check out volunteermatch.org for more information on the needs of organizations in your specific, local area.

  2. ok i'm going to just through them out at you. Garage Sale, Bake Sale, Lemonade Stand, Donation box with a  letter saying what it is for on it, you could go to Sam's and buy the big thing of hot dogs, hot dog buns, the cheep sodas, and the verity bag of chips and have like a cook off  and sale it for like $4.00 for all of it together (and even if they are not hunger ask if they could give a donation), Babysit on a Friday night for parent's and charge like $ 40.00 for 4-5 hours per child, stand at the street light with a bucket asking the drivers for donations, and last but not least have a fish fry with them frozen french fries and salad with a little piece of cake oh ya and a piece of bread you could sell that for like $8.00 a plate.

  3. You can volunteer in the library. I think many colleges also could use some help during registration.  Maybe ask about helping wit the lawn and/or garden. How about volunteering to wheel around a handicapped student?

  4. blood donations, recycling, tutoring--there's usually a school within walking distance.

When students move out of the dorms at the end of the semester or year, they leave piles of good stuff. Offer to collect it for the food pantry and Salvation Army.

  5. I volunteered at the hospital when I was in college, issuing visitor badges.  Two hours a week and it was appreciated.

You can also look for animal shelters or talk to the local churches - there may be a food pantry you can staff or reading to people in nursing homes.
