Can someone please help me with deciding a college comforters. I do not get what some of them mean.?

What is a down comforter, or a down alternative comforter. Why are they cheaper the just regular comforters.

Down alternative is filled with the same stuff as in a pillow or a teddy bear. If you've ever had a dog chew up a plush toy, you know what it is. It is less expensive and it also is hypoallergenic because many people are allergic to down. If you tend to have allergies, it's a good choice. Or if you just don't want to pay as much. I think the only reason to buy down is if you are going to college in a very cold state, down may be warmer.

down alternative comforter.  sounds like fake feathers.

regular comforters.  filled with cotton.

Down is feathers.  Very warm and pricey.

Down alt is fluff like in your pillow.  Less expensive and easily thrown away after a year at college.  I'd recommend this type for school.

down comforters have goose feathers in them making them warmer but when you wash them little feathers begin to poke out which kinda sucks. just get a regular comforter. dorms are generally hot as h**l even in the dead of winter anyways!

Down is feathers. Usually chicken. Goose Down feathers are more expensive. Down alternative is bits of foam rubber or composite material instead of feathers. It's a cheaper material to fill the comforter with. The quality of the cover affects the prie a lot.
