She is a seven month old female who lives with an older female and they have always gotten along really well. Then the other day, a cut appeared on her face and it was bleeding. The next day the inside of her ear was bleeding and the next day her tail was bleeding, near her bottom. I've heard them fight before but my other mouse is fine. Their cage is pretty safe but I found a small bug in there. Just today, her face looks as though there is a hole through it. I am really worried about her although she is acting normally! Please help me!

  1. Seperate the mice immediately, make sure they can't get at eachother. Bathe the two mice in epsom salts and water.(incase of internal infection) Make sure not to put the mice's heads underwater. (you may drown them)

Make sure your cage is bug free and is cleaned thouroughly. (make sure there is no scent from the mice left.)

Put the younger mouse in first, wait about 30 minutes to 1 hour, then add the older mouse.

The younger mouse will have marked her territory and the older mouse will probably back off a bit. It's okay if the mice start to engage in playful wrestling. But if it seems as though their intentions are to injure/hurt/kill one another, remove then and try again. (clean the cage and make sure there are no bugs.)

If the problem persists and your mouse is still appearing with new injuries when you see her, take them both to a veterenarian and tell him/her what has been happening.

It's okay to put mice in the same habitat, but if they start making one another bleed, it's not a good idea at all to leave them be. This means that the mice have taken hostility toward eachother. It may just be a phase, but you should be safe rather than mourning for your mice.

And if you see any new wounds appearing on your mouse/mice. IMMEDIATELY take them to a veterenarian.

  2. are the cuts because of the fighting or the bug?

if its the fighting, separate them for a while and introduce them slowly again in your bathtub where it doesnt carry either of their scents.

if its because of the bugs, thoroughly clean out the whole cage and all the toys with hot water, soaps and bleach. also clean the area around the cage because they could be infected as well.

leave the cage to dry, then fill with new clean bedding and all their stuff again.

if over a couple of days, the cuts are getting worse or are not healing, you should take her to your vet.

    good luck!
