Firstly, I would like to express my gratitude to the teachers for giving me the privilege of standing before you today. My name is Arjun and I am running for Vice President.

I have been in this school for 2 years and I would like to share with you one of my experiences in Junior High back in California. When school elections came around, the nominees would rush to the closest copy machine, and come out with stickers and pins which used to adorn everybody's backpacks and t-shirts. The ones with the glossiest stickers, won.

Again, I stand before you not with large promises or radical ideas, or even glossy stickers. I stand before you with hope. Hope that we can move to a new type of student council. A student council that not only realizes the changes needed, but try to act toward them. A student council that doesnt just sit in a room and go nowhere. A student council that takes your ideas about change, and help implement things that you want to see.

Being the school vice president is both a responsibility and privilage that if you bestow on me I'll be very honored.

  1. i would say it is very good, now the thing is to make sure it is better than the others. let people know an example of an issue or something you would change. and make sure the issues are what most students would want. maybe you can campaign a little, but not like the others. maybe go green with the stickers and button and t-shirts. you will not be elected yet but people will se you are making a change

  2. Sorry Arjun, they're still going to vote for the kid with the glossiest stickers or most likely the kid who's the most popular.  Your speech sounds fine, but it would take an amazing speech to win most high school elections on the merits of the speech alone.
