  1. In a nutshell, Tibet did not firmly establish their sovereignty clearly enough with other world powers and when China invaded in the 1950s, no other country was willing to assist Tibet against the powerhouse which is China. Consequently, they have been under Chinese rule for nearly 50 years. They did not historically belong to China as someone else claimed, but they also did not have a history of declaring their sovereignty.

What's going on now is that Tibetans have been protesting their often poor treatment at the hands of their Chinese rulers (and I have seen it first-hand while I was living in Tibet). When they protest, however peacefully it begins, it inevitably degrades into violence, with Tibetans throwing rocks and setting things on fire, while the Chinese use automatic weapons to fire blindly into crowds.

If you want to do a little reading on the subject I recommend reading The Snow Lion and the Dragon by Melvyn Goldstein. As well as his history of Tibet, which is currently two volumes.

  2. In a nutshell.

    Tibet is China

  3. Without any biase, here it goes:

Tibet had always been under the sovereignty of the central government of China. But when the communist came to power, the Dalai Lama refused to accept them and preferred the nationalists. So there were military conflicts and Dalai lama fled the country, just like the nationalists who fled to Taiwan.

  4. Tibet is part of China, much like California is part of USA. How do you like if the Russian tells you that California should be an independent nation.
