My practical manual is distilling a methanol-methylene dichloride mixture of which is limited by too quick too soon distillation of methanol that makes it hard for students to see that temperature drop effect before methylene dichloride distills. If you can answer me by today(12 August 2008), I thank you in advance.

  1. I've been doing fractional distillation with my first-year chemistry classes for may years.  And I usually use isopropanol (the drug store variety - 70 percent) diluted with a little extra water.   It gives really nice plateaus at both boiling points.
