Can someone please tell me exactly what is a nic card and what does it do?

I just got a new laptop and have heard something about a nic card but don't really know what it is.

a nic card is a networking card.  you can either use it to access other computers if youre on an intranet.  or you can use it to access the internet.

if you just bought a new lappy, the odds are the nic card is integrated into the mobo so you dont have to worry about it

It's a network interface card. It has a port on it where you can plug in to a computer network/internet connection.

But otherwise the other people are correct. The network interface card is a card that is inside your computer, whether it be a laptop or desktop, which allows you to connect to networking devices such as modems and routers. It has a ethernet port on the back through which the connection is made.

NIC stands for network interface card. Your laptop will have a network port on it and most likely have wireless built in. You won't have to worry about it then.
