  1. OxyContin Oral Uses

This drug is used to treat moderate to severe chronic pain (e.g., cancer pain). This medication acts on certain centers in the brain to give you pain relief. It is a long-acting narcotic pain reliever (opiate-type).

This medication should not be used as needed for mild pain which will go away in a few days or for prevention of pain after surgery. If you have not been on this medication before surgery, you should not use it for acute pain in the first 12 to 24 hours after surgery.

    Oxycodone Oral Uses

This medication is used to treat moderate to severe pain. It acts on certain centers in the brain to give you pain relief. Oxycodone is a narcotic pain reliever (opiate-type).

OXYCODONE SUSTAINED - ACTION - ORAL

    Pronunciation: (ox-ee-KOH-doan)

    Brand Name(s): Oxycontin

Notice the two narcotic names? The BRAND name being Oxycontin and the other name being Oxycodone.

Not much different than that.  :-)

  2. oxycontin is a brand name manufactured by Purdu Pharmacuticals, oxycodone is the generic version manufactured by many different company's. Its like ibuprofen is generic, and Motrin is the brand name. Same exact drug just different prices.

  3. Well Oxycodone is Oxycodone but the thing is a OxyContin is intended to be a time release formulation of Oxycodone.

The intentions of the manufacturer "Purdue Pharmaceuticals" was to create a time release tablet with a high concentration of Oxycodone suspended and sealed in a wax shell.  The purpose of this is to distribute Oxycodone over a 12 over period for individuals in chronic pain that need a steady flow of the medication.

OxyContin comes in 10mg,20,40 and 80 mg's. There was a 160mg Oxycontin but it was too dangerous and was killing people. The word OxyContin basically means Oxy-Continous.

Oxycodone is usually a tablet and they are under various trade-names such as Percocet, Tylox, and Roxicodone.  Percocets are a blend of Oxycodone and Tylenol and there are immediate release Oxycodone tablets. So a 40 mg OxyContin is equal to 8; 5mg Percocets.  This is the potency of these things. OxyContin is intended to be taken whole and swallowed.  However there are people that quickly discovered how to abuse them. It does say on the bottle never crush. This can result in respiratory depression very quickly in opiate intolerant people. It has been equated to Heroin but OxyContin is nothing like it nor as powerful.

Oxycodone is a constituent of Thebaine  derivative of opium and was first synthesized by the Germans in 1916. It is very high hitting and extremely addicting. This is nothing to be taken recreationally nor do I feel even long term. I think it is impossible to take this drug as prescribed for an extended period of time without a rapid increase in dosage. A common problem that is brought on with drugs of this class of potency is that the person unintentionally abuses them to maintain a mood blood level and forgets about pain control thus an addiction process begins but really in a latent harmless way. Although there are nuts that just want a buzz, a heck of a lot of us are unsuspecting victims of it's addiction potential and fall prey to physical dependence unknowingly, and this is contrary to what smart -alec recent nursing graduates might think for example that genuine pain -people are drug-seekers and hooligans. But than again who cares?

What would a person know about sky-diving if they never jumped out of a airplane.

    We are people too! LOL

  4. Oxycodone is for temporary relief of pain that usually lasts 4-6 hours

Oxycotin is a controlled release tablet that will usually last 12 hours
