  1. Is this a UK question, US or elsewhere...? Either way it's not wonderfully clear what information you're after.

In the UK there are people who act as a COSS or Controller of Site Safety. These are not engineers in the sense of driving a train or carrying out any engineering, but are responsible for the safety of a work gang out on the railway. They place the lookouts, ensure that all members of the gang are competent in the relevant rules and set out the safe methods of working. These are indentified using a blue armband with COSS in white letters.

I have no idea if this answers your question. Why not post some additional information to give us a fighting chance?

  2. Never heard that one.

I know what a "CS" engineer is, however.  But, so as not to violate community standards I can only say that the "C" stands for "chicken."

  3. I'm going out on a limb here and guessing yahoo put this question in here based on the word engineer and you are perhaps wondering abuot some sort of civil engineering position?

As for any sort of locomotive engineer, those letters dont ring any bells with me.

Rat, ha, yup, the "S" is pretty unversal, preceded by any number of farmyard animals. Equine and male bovine immediatly come to mind.
